NATURE OF THE SERVICE

Return 227 is a free, non-commercial, educational online game. Every day, a new musical challenge is released: the player listens to a synthetic bass line and tries to guess the original song title. Only one challenge is available per day.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

All sounds on Return 227 are generated 100% synthetically using the Web Audio API. No copyrighted audio recording is reproduced, stored, or distributed.

Song titles and artist names mentioned remain the property of their respective rights holders. Their use is limited to identifying the daily challenge in a playful and educational context.

PERSONAL DATA

The only data collected is:

• Email address — used solely for authentication (magic link). It is never shared, sold, or disclosed to third parties.
• Nickname — optional, chosen by the player. If provided, it appears on the public leaderboard.

No tracking, no analytics, no data resale.
All data is hosted in France (OVH).

COOKIES

Return 227 only uses a session cookie required for authentication. No third-party cookies are set. No analytics tools are used.

SCORING

Each challenge score is calculated as follows:

• Base — 1,000 points for solving the challenge.
• Attempt bonus — (6 − attempts used) × 100 points, up to 500 bonus points.
• Speed bonus — up to 200 points on a logarithmic curve. The faster you solve after pressing PLAY, the higher the bonus. Beyond 45 seconds, the speed bonus is 0.
• Failure — an unsolved challenge scores 0 points.

Maximum theoretical score: 1,700 points.

LEADERBOARD

The leaderboard displays a public ranking of players who have chosen to set a nickname (opt-in). Only the nickname, score, and rank are visible. Rankings are available as daily and all-time views.

ACCOUNT DELETION

To request the deletion of your account and all associated data, send an email to [email protected] from the address used to sign up.

APPLICABLE LAW

These terms are governed by French law. In the event of a dispute, French courts shall have exclusive jurisdiction.
